General Classroom Info.
This is the same information that was sent home on the first day of school, which includes general information about the classroom, procedures for parents, and my contact information.
☺ We have a morning snack break at 10:00 a.m. each day. Please send one, small snack and drink for your child.
☺ I encourage you to provide your child with a bottle of water each day which will be kept at his/her desk. (No juices please, just water).
☺ We use a lunch program called Nutri Kids. This program eliminated the need for cash. Parents set up and add money to an account. Then the child uses a pin number when purchasing his/her lunch. I believe more information on this will be sent home from the office. There is also a link to the website, mynutrikids.com, on the Burgess website at http://www.tantasqua.org/burgess/ . *Please note it is very important that your child know whether or not he/she is purchasing lunch or a milk as soon as they enter the class in the morning.
☺ Our “Specials” schedule (i.e. music, art, etc.) rotates on a 6 day cycle. It can be a bit confusing at first, but the children get the hang of it quickly. I have sent home a list of our specials’ rotation (keep this for the school year). I will send home a monthly schedule as well. Being sure your child has the correct shoe attire on gym days is appreciated as well as the returning of books on library day. Please note, if your child brings back his/her library book more than two days late he/she will be unable to receive a new book.
☺ For information regarding homework please see the “Homework” handout provided at the beginning of the school year. Our “regular” homework will not start right away. Your child (and you) will start off with easing back into the school year. The month of September is generally a time to become familiar with the daily classroom routines and a time for me to assess students’ abilities. We do a lot of skills review and I read with each child to determine how I can best meet their individual reading needs.
☺ If your child’s end-of-day dismissal will be different than what we have on file in the main office you are required to send in a note. Otherwise I cannot send your child home with a friend’s parent, etc. When writing a note please specify such things as my name, room number (D224), your child’s first and last name, who will be picking up your child, at what time, and please provide the date. All of this information is necessary for the office staff. *You can purchase a booklet of special note paper in the office for a very small fee of $1 to make this process easier. I’ll be more than happy to get this packet of note paper for you if you send in a dollar along with a note.
☺ If you wish to dismiss your child early for any reason a note is also greatly appreciated by the main office and myself. Remember to include the information mentioned above. This also allows me to provide your child with any necessary paper work and have him/her ready for your arrival. (Otherwise you may be waiting quite a bit).
☺ A Bus Pass is required if your child will be taking a different bus, as the bus company has to be notified. Please send in the Bus Pass with your child on that day as opposed to a day earlier.
* You can print out Bus Passes from the Burgess website. It is located under “Parents” and then “Forms, Documents, and Reports.”
☺ Please have your child keep valuable items or special toys at home. This includes all battery operated items / electronics.
☺ We love to celebrate birthdays!! However, please be aware that we, at Burgess, no longer celebrate birthdays with food items. We are more than happy to have you provide other “goodies” such as pencils, stickers, erasers, bookmarks, or any other little item of interest.
☺ Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. (No issue or concern is too small.) The best way to contact me is via email ([email protected]). If you prefer, you can call the main office at (508) 347-7041 and you’ll be able to leave a message in my personal mailbox. I will do my best to get back to you that day or evening. (The best time to reach me is at shortly after 3:00 p.m. as I’m usually available to take your call.) You can also place a note in your child’s Home-School folder, which I check every morning, and I will be sure to respond that day with a reply note back to you or a phone call if requested. Another option
Second grade is a very exciting and rewarding time for you and your child. You will continue to be a necessary part of your child’s education. (☺After all you were your child’s first teacher!) Your support is essential and greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance! I am looking forward to a terrific year!
Sincerely,
Kim Moore
